Introducing... Elizabeth Wood!

Welcome to my blog!

This page has been created in connection with the Advanced Computers class I am currently taking as a St. John's University graduate student. It is my first experience venturing into Internet publishing, and I hope that by the semester's end, the page will chronicle all I have learned in class.

This blog is also created at a very exciting point in my life! Last May, after working in a cubicle for three years in the Real Estate Tax practice at Ernst & Young, I joined the New York City Teaching Fellows to teach mathematics. The decision to apply came after years of struggling to find meaning in my work - something I could not find no matter which company (JPMorgan, Deloitte) or business unit (human resources, marketing, and finally, accounting) I explored.

I currently teach 6th grade mathematics at JHS 194 in Whitestone, Queens, and I have had a delightful experience so far. My days are very busy planning, tutoring, and tweaking lessons, but all of the work is worthwhile as I find tremendous satisfaction in helping my student's wrap their minds around difficult concepts and guiding them to take pride in their own work. I also enjoy working with the sixth graders, who are so eagar to learn and claim they love math!
